This year was significant in many ways that I didn’t even fathom. This blog post is a celebration of The Geeky Bookworm blog and community. If you have missed reading any post or would like to re-read it, you can find it here in the yearly roundup.

The year started with my very first travel blog series on Hampi. It traversed from the temples to royalty and from the ancient Vanaras (Ramayan) to the Medieval Vijayanagara Empire. While blogging the series from January to March, I learned about the rich History of Karnataka and began appreciating the roots of Indian heritage and culture.

The next two months of April and May were a deep dive into the literary accomplishments of two of my favourite authors, VS Naipaul and Satyajit Ray. While the former established a sense of identity, the latter took me on adventures across the Universe! Through the post Reliving History Through Travel, I was transfixed by the evolution of various cities through time, including Mumbai, Pelling, Lonavala and Mcleodganj.

In the months of June and July, my two most popular posts were launched, centering the Magnum Opus Ponniyinselvan! Even vast amount of posts would fall short to describe the grandeur of the novel and the web of historical fiction that Kalki spun. The headstrong and powerful characters, roped in with just the right amount of action and drama will make this a suitable read for a rainy day.

On 24th of July, my website was indexed and was born in this digital world. I shifted my content from the rudimentary blog to this website.

In August, I wrote a tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Every time I read Gurudev’s poems, a fresh perspective comes to my mind. With every introspection and meditation, one begins to understand the reality of the spiritual realm which Robi Babu has beautifully carved.

My next travel series was on Rishikesh. It is a minuscule part of my larger travelogue which I intend to publish in the coming days.

October brought to light a famous work of fiction in Sanskrit, Mricchakatika or The Little Clay Cart. The elaborate set of characters, it’s simplicity and its entertaining storyline make this book a must-read. It was followed by a poem on Diwali, the festival of lights.

The blog on Swapna Saraswatha was published at the end of November. Although I read the book in March, I couldn’t bring myself to write the blog immediately. It would be right to say that the book had stunned me and I wanted to do complete justice in bringing out the essence of the tale.

We are finally in December and inching towards the New Year. I end this year with a lot of gratitude to all my readers for supporting me through thick and thin. Immensely grateful to Anuradha Goyal of Inditales Travel Blog for giving me an opportunity to write on my journey to Matheran, Udupi Shri Krishna Matha and Jim Corbett National Park. In this process, I learnt to dive deep into the subject and understood the history and heritage of the places.

I promise to provide more insightful and intriguing posts in the coming year.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Let’s bid adieu to another year,
And welcome the sight
Of new days and months,
Full of light,
Full of colours,
Enveloping the illuminated souls
With an undying hope
Of a better tomorrow.

  1. Akshaya, I am glad that you have come such a long way. Your motivation and dedication will inspire many young and brilliant minds who dream of taking on the role of the writer but hesitate to take that leap. I am proud to see the transformation of how a quiet, young girl who never lost her determination to excel achieved such a milestone in life. More power to you, my girl! God bless you!

    1. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. You supported me and believed my ability from the beginning. Eternally grateful🙏
