The colours of a rangoli and it’s intricate patterns have always enticed me. Every rangoli is different and has a story to tell It is not just a tradition but a form of art!
Whether it is the mandalas created by the Buddhist monks or a rangoli at home, it is temporary; as dissolution(pralay) inevitably takes place. Right from opening the packets of rangoli powder to creating the design, the genesis(nirman) of rangoli is one that is cherished. My poem illustrates this and much more.
Bags of colour thrown around

Intense atmosphere surrounds
The one painting on the floor
With coloured powders that say a lore,
Of Kings and Battles
A homecoming after long travels,
Happiness that fills the air
A rangoli in circle or square.
Mandalas created day in and out
Welcoming prosperity and peace
Symbolising the journey about
From patterns and colours
To complete darkness
And finally light
Is the inexplicable flight
When one closes their eyes
And goes within, beyond ties.
Colours that unite
And bring towards the ever burning light
Reigniting the spirit of Diwali
Forever and ever, till eternity!
